Hi, I've come across a website selling downloads for workshop manuals covering many manufacturers, including Rover. It all seems quite legit, but bearing in mind past threads regarding piracy and copyright, is it advisable to avoid? The 75 manual is only £9.99, and available for instant download - quite a saving on a Haynes printed manual.By rights the only people that can have legitimate access to the OE workshop discs ar ethe dealer network, in other words garages who have signed up to the Xpart service centre network. Oviously ex Rover dealers will still have it and may have late versions of it as well. The dodgy discs and downloads going around are just that, dodgy so probably best avoided. I know of many of these sites that do dodgy downloads that will drop all sorts of trojans, viruses etc onto your computer.
Regards, Rob. The copyrights to the said manuals, etc. Is held by Xpart and through them by their parent company Catapillar Inc.

Any website offering this service must have obtained a distribution licence from Xpart/Catapillar and such permission would be clearly stated on the webpage displaying the information. There's no mention of Xpart/Catapillar anywhere on the site. It's pretty well known and it amazes me that Xpart at least haven't taken steps to protect their interests. Unfortunately, it's the inertia of copyright owners to act that gives the freedom of outfits like this one to make considerable profits off their back.

After all, distributing data/books via download is almost cost and overhead free. If Catapillar was in the music business and it was music being sold, they would have had the people involved into Court by day two.
