Oooh, I can't STAND it when people do that! I'm pretty particular about who I'll work for or sell to anymore. I bought a '96 STX38 from my neighbor's father for $100, fixed it for $250, sold to my friend for $500. Anytime he has a question about it, he doesn't hesitate to call me.

(And that's how I like it.) He's already said he'll pay for me to come out and teach him to winterize it, and any other maintenance issues that come up. I respect people who know their limitations, respect their equipment, and seek assistance when needed.

Sent from the MTF Free App. I just did a 175 a few months ago ran great sold for 325,after they had it a month, tore it up then wanted there money back They didnt get it, some poeple like to take advantage of you if you let thema) You need to raise the price in order to screen out all the losers. B) +1 on the comment about being picky with whom you sell too (I'm not blaming you, it's just solid advice). Sold a big JD about a year ago. $3,000+ machine when it was new, and still in beautiful shape. About 3wks ago, the elderly-I've-got-more-money-and-land-than-gawd' shows up complaining that the hydrostatic has stopped working. 'They've barely used it, and now it's broke down.'

Code for, 'You're gonna fix it for free, under a make believe warranty clause.' I ask a few questions and oopsie, it had a flat rear tire, the wheel wouldn't slide off the axle, so wise-guy decided to beat on it. And now there's no drive. He said he'd bring it in for repairs, never heard from him again. 2wks later, I get a call that if this transmission repair is going to cost, they'll have to think about it because they're feeling a little bit 'snake bit' by the purchase. I told him to plan on $400, otherwise, put it on CL. Haven't heard from him.

John Deere 165 Hydro Belt

I told him to plan on $400, otherwise, put it on CL. Haven't heard from him.Hi Austen, one of my fears of selling! I had one guy kinda like this, but nicer. I wound up taking the one machine back, only because dad and I miscommunicated and I sold two machine to guy for only $350! Dad was hot at me, his hearing isn't like it was and he thought guy wanted one, but he wanted TWO!

Anyway, got to love how people are! Glad you did not let rich gramps screw you!

165John deere hydro 165 manual pdf

I am not sure that this is technically a garden tractor, if I am in the wrong forum let me know and I will move along. I just got a 165 hydro at an auction, everything seems to work well when I cut grass with it.

I have never had a hydro before and all I know is that it says to keep the fluid 5-1/2' below the neck. I can buy a manual on ebay for about $20, would that be a good investment? Is there anything I should know about how to operate or maintain a hydro transmission? Any advice will be much appreciated.

John Deere Hydro 165 Parts

You are in the right forum. I have a 185 Hydro. I personally do not do much maintenance on the hydro.

When you take the filler cap off, there is a screen(filter) 5 1/2' below the top and if you can see the screen, then you need to add hydro fluid. I use non detergent SAE 30 motor oil. I suppose it is a good idea to make sure the fan is cooling the hydro parts and has no broken fins. I just looked up your hydro pump and it appears to be the exact same one mine has. We have the Eaton pump which is low end.

The Sauer Sundstrand pump seems to be more durable. Don't force it from forward to reverse real fast. Give the actuators a few seconds to stop before going in the opposite direction. Don't let the pump run dry.

Use the release knob when pushing it by hand.
